Width Guide

Western boots come in standard widths. If you're between widths, size up for comfort — a snug toe box is expected and will break in naturally.

Width Code Description
B / N Narrow
D / M Medium (Standard)
EE / W Wide
EEE / XW Extra Wide

Western Boot Fit Tips

  • Heel slip is normal: New western boots should have about 1/4" to 1/2" of heel slip. This decreases as the boot breaks in. Excessive slip (more than 3/4") means you need a smaller size.
  • Toe box: Your toes should have a snug fit but not feel crushed. Wiggle room at the tip is minimal — that's normal for pointed-toe styles.
  • Ball of foot: The widest part of your foot should align with the widest part of the boot.
  • Break-in period: Most leather western boots require 20–40 hours of wear to fully break in. Use a boot stretcher or leather conditioner to speed up the process.
  • Socks matter: Always size with the socks you plan to wear — typically a medium-weight western or work sock.
  • Work boots: Work boots (like steel-toe or performance styles) may run slightly larger. When in doubt, size down half a size for a snugger fit.
